Interrelation of creep and relaxation for nonlinearly viscoelastic materials: application to ligament and metal

چکیده
where J(t) is the creep compliance as it depends on time t, and E(t) is the relaxation modulus. Many constitutive models have been developed to describe the nonlinear viscoelastic behavior of materials; see Schapery (1969) and Findley et al. (1976). Models described by Johnson et al. (1996) are for large deformations and Pioletti et al. (1998) take into account the strain rate. In the present study we consider a singleintegral form called nonlinear superposition. This allows the relaxation function to depend on strain level and creep to depend on stress:

Generalized solution for predicting relaxation from creep in soft tissue: Application to ligament
Creep and relaxation are two viscoelastic phenomena that are easily interrelated for a linearly viscoelastic material, but interrelationships are complex for nonlinearly viscoelastic materials. We use a single-integral nonlinear superposition principle to relate creep and relaxation, where the kernel is assumed to be a nonseparable product of strain and time. Herein, we develop time dependence ...
متن کاملA Nano-indentation Identification Technique for Viscoelastic Constitutive Characteristics of Periodontal Ligaments
Introduction: Nano-indentation has recently been employed as a powerful tool for determining the mechanical properties of biological tissues on nano and micro scales. A majority of soft biological tissues such as ligaments and tendons exhibit viscoelastic or time-dependent behaviors. The constitutive characterization of soft tissues is among very important subjects in clinical medicine and espe...
متن کاملInterrelation of creep and relaxation: a modeling approach for ligaments.
Experimental data (Thornton et al., 1997) show that relaxation proceeds more rapidly (a greater slope on a log-log scale) than creep in ligament, a fact not explained by linear viscoelasticity. An interrelation between creep and relaxation is therefore developed for ligaments based on a single-integral nonlinear superposition model. This interrelation differs from the convolution relation obtai...
متن کاملA Mathematical Approach for Describing Time-Dependent Poisson’s Ratios of Periodontal Ligaments
Periodontal ligament is a thin layer of soft tissue that connects root of a tooth to the surrounding alveolar bone. These ligaments play an important role in initiating tooth movement when loads are applied to teeth with orthodontic appliances. The majority of such soft tissues exhibit as viscoelastic bodies or have a time-dependent behavior. Due to the viscoelastic behavior of the periodontal ...
متن کاملKinesio Taping Applied to Lumbar Muscles in Static Lumbar Flexion
Purpose: In approaching full trunk flexion (75%-80% of full flexion), myoelectric activity of lumbar erector spinae muscles is reduced or silenced; this response is known as flexion-relaxation phenomenon (FRP). FRP is a shift in load sharing and spinal stabilization from active structures (erector spinae muscles) to passive ligamentous and articular structures. Static lumbar flexi...
